Bach Minuet for Melodic Style Banjo...
by Gerald Jones
Here is a Bach minuet that lays very well on melodic style banjo. In case you didn't know it Bach was a freaking genius! Bach was more famous as an organist during his lifetime and not particularly well known as a composer. His preference for Baroque forms and contrapuntal style was considered old-fashioned by his contemporaries, especially late in his career when the musical fashion tended towards Rococo (not Rocky Rococo) and later Classical styles. Bach's music is filled with diminished chords and hidden themes. This one isn't though. It's an elegant and familiar piece. The melody was borrowed by the Toys in 1965 for "A Lover's Concerto" which reached #2 on the pop charts. It started with the words: "How gentle is the rain that falls softly on the meadow..."
I've set it with just the main theme for simplicity's sake. Other than a little single string in the second section it should be fairly easy to learn and play.
Enjoy!
